Our favourite lookouts and walks

A visit to Katoomba would not be complete without a stop at Echo Point to gaze down on the ancient rock formations known as the Three Sisters. It’s just a few minutes from the house by car or makes a great morning walk.

Cahill Lookout is only a 2-minute drive from the house with views out to the magnificent Megalong Valley.

A 10-minute drive away in Leura is Sublime Point looking out over the always stunning Jamison Valley. It’s a great picnic spot for families and rock climbers alike.

Evans Lookout is newly renovated and, with accessible access, sits above the impressive Grose Valley located in Blackheath. It’s about a 15-minute drive from the house. It’s also the start and finish point for the Grand Canyon walking trail, a stunning series of waterfalls, creeks and spectacular views.

You really need to experience all three valleys to truly appreciate the Blue Mountains.

Our eat picks

Our favourite cafe for a leisurely breakfast is Pomegranate - try the baked eggs they are to die for. Bring cash though as they don’t have eftpos.

Mountain Culture Brewery located on Park St Katoomba, the Station Bar for a chilled vibe and some pizza, or for some low and slow BBQ try the Bootlegger Bar.

Our family-friendly picks include Rustico for traditional Italian. Grab a pizza to go and enjoy it at one of the lookouts. Their pastas are as good as their pizzas and it’s a family favourite.

Have fussy little eaters? Then head to the the RSL located on Lurline St, Katoomba. The refurbished bistro has all the classics and with a games room for the kids you can enjoy a few moments. Bookings are recommended for early sittings.

If you’re looking for a fine-dining experience with a little extra we recommend the Hydro Majestic for high tea. Sit window-side and gaze across the Megalong Valley while you indulge in very tasty sweet and savoury treats. They also cater for those with dietary conditions and have a children’s high tea too. The Hydro Majestic is an 8-minute drive from Katoomba and bookings are essential.

Also try Blue Mountains Chocolate Company located within minutes of the Three Sisters. They have traditional melt-your-own chocolate in their hot chocolate. So cosy on a cold day.
